How Can I Host A File For Free?

I have a File On my PC And I want to Host it on the web for free so that i can put a link to it on my website. Also When I put It On my website i Want to Know How can I Make the link to the file so that it does not switch the page to download it. (e.g. someone goes on my site and they click the link and instead of it switching to the download page i want it so that a %26#039;save%26#039; Box Pops up while still on my site.) Please Answer both questions, it woud be very apreciated.

You need webserver software. The most widely used is apache. It%26#039;s free and can be downloaded at:

For a web address, you can use your ip address (unless it is dynamically issued by your ISP) or, a better solution (albeit not free) is to purchase a web address. I%26#039;ve used

for years and am quite happy. There are alot of places to get web addresses though, if the dyndns prices is too high.

As for the 2nd part, you might be able to use javascript to force an action when someone clicks on the link. You can check:

You could use google docs or zoho to host the file and share it. There you have options to who can view it or download it.
