I see a lot of blogs out there and I have several with blogspot but I want to host my own blog. I have a web host. The host has geeklog installed. I find the templates ugly and I want to use a template that I found in Movable Type. It says I can use the template as long as the designer%26#039;s blurb is on every page. I figure that%26#039;s fair.

Is this (Read Below) is possible in Dot Net Nuke version 4.5.3 and if so how?

I want to have a link on my now existing static home page that takes the user to a login screen that also has other generic information on it. If the user has to register, they register but before being granted privileages I have to validate them. When the user does login I want them to be taken to their own specialized page that was made for them by me. They will have downloads and other stuff on their page that are specific for them.

Is this possible? Please let me know someone! Dot Net Nuke%26#039;s support system is crap and so is my web host!!! I just need to know if I need to find another software or how to do it with this one. Thanks!

This isn%26#039;t possible with the out of the box DNN setup. You may have to find a custom module to handle this.

The problem is that DNN doesn%26#039;t really differentiate content based on a User ID. If a user is registered, they can access any module that allows for it. You%26#039;d have to manually add them to an access list of the repository module.

You could, however, alter the repository module to display downloads based on the logged-in User.

My question is: After reading news on the Capitals website, I came across a very common story of a toy charity drive hosted by the Capitals. They had raised a whopping $1983 for the charity, Toys for Tots. One fan brought a $1,000 check. So really they only raised $983 in toys.

i have setup my windows server 2003 and iis6 and asp all working really well. just i seem to be having a small problem i added my site in iis and if i want to brows it it comes up with the sit is under construction witch its not, if i open my browser and type http://www.myite.co.uk/index.html it works fine but if i just type http://www.mysite.co.uk it goes to the under construction page.

i have changed the default content page but still no luck.

Hi, I%26#039;m an Apache person, but I understand that IIS out of the box has default.htm as the file it loads. You said that you had tried to edit default.htm (is that correct? I heard that it is a dynamic page, so perhaps that%26#039;s why you edit it but don%26#039;t see the changes). Forget it perhaps and sort out the config of IIS so that it loads the index.html first. Try within %26quot;Site settings%26quot;. Also, you could try changing the filename of index.html to index.htm as I heard it might be configured to load. Not sure if this will help, but hope so.

Other Replys:For an IIS server, I believe that the default file extension is .htm. The server, if it%26#039;s properly configured, should look for a file called index.htm, then index.html, index.asp, and I think even index.txt - so it%26#039;s possible that your server is only looking for index.htm and can%26#039;t find it.

Try either re-configuring the server, or re-naming your file, and then you should be ok.

im having problems with our internet on my desktop and my laptop(laptop uses a router)...on both my desktop and laptop it has internet problems we have dsl and i have a router so i can use my laptop around the house..whenever i try to connect to the internet it will but sometimes when i do a search or go to a page it just pops up with a white back ground and alot of script..sometimes it says error host not available..sometimes it says xml error..most of the time random script pops up or it just says done with a blank white screen when tryin to access any web page..the internet works normal around 1/2 the time...i have run winsock and i also have anti virus anti spyware and anti malware programs on my computers..i have tryed resetting the dsl box and router..idk what to do...some1 told me to download highjack this..im not sure how to work that application tho..please any help and advice is greatly appreciated..please be as thorough as u can bc this is a huge problem for me..than

Hi I%26#039;ve been trying to make my own website which I was successful but dang it doesn%26#039;t look very pretty or eye catching. One problem that I%26#039;ve come across is SEO and I%26#039;ve heard that Google does not recognize my website because of the amount of 閳?20閳?in the URL address for my pages. For example:

A good hosting server is going to depend on what you want out of it. Does it need FrontPage extensions, .NET, PHP, etc.

I got an account from dyndns.org and got XXXXXXXXXXX.dyndns.org (domain). I have no idea how to set up web server. I used apache and tried ftp server but when i type in XXXXXXXXXX.dyndns.org it will take me to the router log in page. How can i make it go to my computers server?

I port forwarded the ports on the router 21(ftp) and 80 for http server and tried without forward but still no luck and tried others.

A question about IIS 6.0 and posting multiple webpages.?

I have 03 Windows Server setup with IIS 6.0, and I can%26#039;t figure out why I can%26#039;t publish multiple websites correctly. Right now, all three of my websites files are published on the web server, however when I try to go to one of the sites in a browser, I can%26#039;t get it to pull up right. It will just go to the the first website I published. I have all 3 of the websites posted in the websites folder in IIS, and have virtual directories for two sites in the default web page folder. When I look in the inetpub/www folder, I only have the webfiles for my first site that does not have a virtual directory. Do I need to somehow get all of the 3 sites webfiles in this inetpub/www folder? I have all the websites pointed at the same ip, and host names are set for each of them. The DNS is set up correctly with the domain registrar. When I try to put all of the 3 sites webfiles in the inetpub/www folder manually, only one site will pull up in the browser do to conflict. What should I do here?

Depending on the quality and format of your website. If it is going to contain a lot of pictures, change them to jpeg and reduce the resolution. Hundred ++ pages should be fine.

Well at home, apparently the website runescape is blocked, stating the message in the title of this question. I believe (more than likely) that the administrator account on our other comp, which is the host internet connection, is the one which blocked it.

I have tried every unblocking website, but when I get to the log in page, it just says: Page not found, or something like that. I need to know anything that:

A. may unblock it permanently

I am starting my own business online selling only one product. My website will consist of 3 simple pages, a shopping cart, and a free membership area.

I am computer literate, and have decent experience using microsoft frontpage to build web pages.

The only thing I don%26#039;t know how to do is integrate my website%26#039;s template (one with a cart and membership area) to a program like frontpage. And I am not too keen on how to put the site on my host (but I am sure they could help me with that?)

The guy I hired to do this is an @$$hole who is taking forever, and everyone else wants thousands of dollars to do it.

Would it be possible for someone like me to build the site on my own? Or would I just be wasting my time?

I have a site that will leverage both http and https, and is hosted on Yahoo! small business services. I want to avoid the message %26quot;this page contains sercure and nonsecure ...%26quot; when a user visits the secure section of the site.

At first glance, I figured that I could place all of the required content into a folder under %26lt;root%26gt;/ssl and everything would be just fine. However, that poses some serious content management issues.

So, if I want to only maintain content in one place, can I place all of it under %26lt;root%26gt;/ssl and be just fine? If so, how do I modify the include_path to point to something like %26lt;riit%26gt;/ssl/include vs. the standard %26lt;root%26gt;/include?

Am I missing something?

I need the terminology for my host/service, to explain what I need. They are Network Solutions. I want to change the address, that is the domain (.com) name- however I want the web pages to stay exactly the same without having to redo all the work. So the address will be different. A lot of it depends on how you have created your webpage. I am talking about the links. For example lets say you have a website called www.xyz.com and you want to change it to www.zzz.com.

If alot of your links are something like www.xyz.com/newevents.html ... then you are going to have problems. This could happen if you had previously MANUALLY key in the link address.

If you had made the links by choosing a file instead (lets say you are using Dreamweaver), then the link is not specific to www.xyz.com/newevents.html only.. but can be (anydomain)/newevents.html.

Maybe you can describe how you design your website? In particular the linkings.

And as for changing the domain name, you can register a new domain name with network solutions.. and ask them to update the DNS.. if necessary (i doubt so because you are using a same provider). But ask them, about the DNS anyway.

You%26#039;d need to backup your files in the previous domain..and dump all into the new one. using FTP programs would be good.

I can't connect to the internet with my laptop what should I do?

I have a Gateway laptop and it%26#039;s a little over a year old. From the time I got it until about last Wednesday I had absolutely no problem using it to connect to the internet. Last Wednesday however, it suddenly stopped connecting to the internet, it still connects to any network I am near, but when it does it just gives the message server could not be found and will not load any web pages. I ran all the diagnostic tests with ping that I knew and everything came back fine, except that my computer couldn%26#039;t connect to it%26#039;s host, which since I am connecting wirelessly, is itself. That told me that there must have been something wrong with my computer internally, so I purchased a wireless and thus, external adapter card and attempted to use it to connect to the internet, but it too could not find the internet, even though it connected to the network. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next to fix the problem, or even another suggesstion for what the problem might be? thanks.

here are a couple of things you can try. open IE-click tools up top-click internet options-then connections-LAN settings-if the box that says auto detect settings is checked then uncheck it. now try. if that box was unchecked then check it. now try.

if that doesnt work. after you connect to a wireless connection. click start-run-type this cmd-then hit enter-now type ipconfig /release-hit enter- now type ipconfig /renew- hit enter- now type ipconfig /flushdns-hit enter-now type ipconfig /registerdns-hit enter- now try to get online again.

Its a great start to start with. theres only like 5 -7 parts to the tutorials I think and they%26#039;re only like around 5 min a piece. They%26#039;re quick and they dont talk a lot, more like show but they do eplain things to you. the pace is fast so you%26#039;re never board and it explains everything you need to know. Each has their limitations but all of them are free services. Geocities is great for like single web pages that dont have a lot of content. Maybe for posting a resume or something but the bandwidth allotment is horrible. Bandwidth allotment or data transfer rate which host call it is basically how many people can access your pages at teh same time before it crashes. Geocites gives you a really short amount which means if you have a hand full of people viewing your site everyday it will crash everytime.

Tripod is in my opinion horrible but it does the trick. Its so horrible because the ads completely over rule your design and you aren%26#039;t allowed to change them. The ads are google ads adn they completely rule your page. they look like newspaper clippings honestly which is so unattractive.

Bravenet.com is a whole lot better. They have ads but they are a bit more consipcuous and you get way more bandwitdth and server spaces for pics and even vids.

The best by far for free hosting in my opinion is freespaces.com . Freespaces has ads but they are so inconspicuous you dont notice. also your ads are in a div format which means they pop up in teh top without pushing your page down or altering it at all plus the ad has a %26quot;x%26quot; button to close. Your going to need an image editing program that has the capability to show you the size of your photos in pixels. Sometimes you get image editing software that comes with a camera or something but a lot of times that is not software that has such a specific capability. You can crop and cut but you don%26#039;t necessarily know what size your image is once you are done.

A program such as Photoshop will allow you to change your image sizes and will measure in formats of inches, centimeters, milimetres, or pixels depending on what you specify. However, such image editing software is really pricey usually running over $700 for a new program. My advice to you would be to find a friend or someone willing to help you who already has such software and can make the image size changes for you. Otherwise you may be able to contact a print house or graphics designer and maybe they can do it for you for a fee. I really don%26#039;t know what other solution there may be.

I am a graphic designer and I know html, css and basic JS, and I want to start add a simple shop to sell a limited range of products.

Well most shopping carts are built using a combination of a server-side language like PHP or ASP, a database like MySQL or SQL Server, and then the html/css/js for the front end that a user sees and interacts with.

I understand your hesitation with oscommerce due to the lack of customization. There are plenty of software products that you can use to build a shopping cart or you can learn a new language and build one on your own.

If you want to do it right and get the best shopping cart possible, I would recommend going to your local bookstore and into the computer book section. Look for a book that might be able to help you with an example of building a shopping cart. (I have included one of many books that you can find on the subject).

And if you plan on accepting credit card information, you can also ask the bookstore clerk about online credit card processing (using something like itransact..see link below). Maybe a book on Paypal if you want to go that route instead.

This information in combination with what you find at the bookstore and what you might take at your local college/university will get you moving in the right direction.

If you are willing to spend the time to learn, then I would recommend Adobe Fireworks or Photoshop to design (although Fireworks is easier and tailored more for web), and Dreamweaver for the development side.

Otherwise, you can always purchase a pre-designed and coded website from www.templatemonster.com and then use the software programs to edit artwork and customize your content.

Joomla is a content management system. It helps you create dynamic sites (i.e. who%26#039;s content comes from a DataSource).

Front Page is an HTML editor with a notorious reputation. The reason for that is because it produces HTML that does not adheres to web standards.

Hence my answer is first figure out what do you want from your site. This is the first step that will help you decide where to go next.

I will want to create a website for my handyman services. I will want the best design it yourself package as in: most options for creating site. I will need approximately 5 pages to start with and may expand over time. There%26#039;s an option in FrontPage (in the Publish options window) where you can tell it to either publish all of the pages on your site or ONLY pages that have changed. The default is to publish all of the pages. Keep an eye out for that option the next time you work on your site. Good luck!

I don%26#039;t know of any software where you can automate this. You could probably do something yourself if your willing to spend alot of time learning and trying.

Really you want to contact a Pro, there are hundreds of website companies that can do this for you, you really need to do some research though online. Look at their examples of their work, their prices, and also very important find out about ongoing content updates, so when you need changes made they can do this for you.

Building a E-Commerce site such as this probably wont be cheap though, I could do it but it would probably take me the best part of a week. Sounds like you need a PHP enabled site getting data from a SQL back end that stores all the info needed, with such things as stock availability, sizes, colours etc... prices, shipment prices.

You can also use this back-end as a secure way to store customer purchase details and order tracking etc... But to design all this from scratch may well be expensive.

I would hesitate to recommend any company / person myself as everything I need I do myself, or i learn how to do it myself. So have never needed to use any such service myself. I would also be hesitant to recommend anyone because of the artful nature of websites and design, it really is a personal preference who%26#039;s work you like the look of as to what you are after.

Hello,

I created an Access Database and I%26#039;m using DW8 as my web authoring tool. I was able to make a connection to the database with DW and even created recordsets, but when I try to preview the .ASP page I created with the dynamic content using the testing server , nothing displays. I%26#039;m using Apache for the Web Server. I uploaded the page and the DB to my hosting server to see if it was something with my PC, but the same thing occurs online.

First a little advice. Post your code it helps troubleshoot the issue.

If you are using apache, my advice is to switch to MySQL. You can export your Access database to a comma seperated value and then import it into MySQL. There are some MySQL gui engines that are very similar to SQL Server Enterprise Edition.

It could be your connection string or the way you are opening and closing the connection. If you are running this on Linux, you might find PHP easier to use.

If GoDaddy has a web based FTP client and you don%26#039;t plan on transferring a lot of files that often, I%26#039;d use that. CuteFTP is also a great FTP client, http://www.cuteftp.com/, but it does cost $40.

I would also suggest trying http://www.cyberultra.net/hosting.php next time you renew your hosting. Much less expensive than GoDaddy, $40 for a year. I%26#039;ve been with them for years. They%26#039;re very reliable.

Basicly, contact the people that administer the server and ask what%26#039;s up. They may be able to help.

I have a Dell Poweredge 2450 server (dual 600 cpus, 2gbs ram, 3 18gbs hdd) and plan to use it to host some simple web sites which will include php pages. Which operating system should I go with? Windows NT Server or Ubuntu 7.04 Server? Any reason for your pick? Thanks.

Windows NT or Ubuntu?

The decision should be based on your ability to get drivers for the Dell running Ubuntu 7.04. Besides, other services that need to run running a web page could be problematical as well.

However, running Ubuntu does solve the spyware and virus crap.

Running Windows NT will be much easier to set up - however - I do not believe Microsoft has supported NT for quite a while.

Yes, I do this pretty much everyday.

First, you need to set it up in DW (Dreamweaver). Here%26#039;s how:

If you have NOT defined your local copy of the site in DW:

Site %26gt; New Site

Enter in your info. (WHat you want to call your site, where all the files will be, images directory, etc.)

Then, on the left %26quot;Category%26quot; side, click %26quot;remote info%26quot;. Go to the %26quot;Advanced%26quot; tab and on the drop down choose %26quot;FTP%26quot;

your ftp host is: www.yoursitename.com

(of course, change yoursitename with the domain name you purchased from godaddy or whereever)

Leave %26quot;Host Directory%26quot; blank and enter in your godaddy login information. (your godaddy username and password).

Then, all you need to do is synchronize your local copy with your %26quot;remote%26quot; godaddy copy.

Then, on the new screen that shows up, there is a green recycle like icon on top that says %26quot;Synchronize%26quot; and wallah, your sites will be synchronized. Get and Put are pretty self-explanatory.

Help me, I have had this problem like for two months already. I get Host not accessible (Cannot locate remote server in Opera) errors %26quot;randomly%26quot; in Firefox and Opera (I don%26#039;t use IE). Ok first off my goal

I have a website where I am selling multiple products from home thought I had everything set up but come to find out when the item sells it is not deleted which could cause a problem if multiple people order and I am out of stock so I am have created a database using MySQL that is hosted on a web server the database has 1 table with 2 rows one row is the product description and the other a field that tells if it is avalaible

I need to create a page that has a button on it to check if the product is available and if it is available to return with a webpage %26quot;examplepage1.html%26quot; and if not available return with a seperate webpage %26quot;examplepage2.html%26quot;

I also need to have a way of deleting it from the database if it is bought

When using a webpage with php script to do these tasks do I need to connect to the database using the host, user, password set?

Hello, I want to create a template for some ebay auctions in dreamweaver but I%26#039;m a little confused how to do it. I can create all design in dreamweaver thats not a problem. What I%26#039;m confused on is how do I link or embed the pictures I want to use so they will show up in ebay. I have normally used flickr to host images then i%26#039;d link or embed the images when I set up the auction in ebay.

I%26#039;d like to be able to upload the pictures to either flickr or my web server but when you insert pictures in dreamweaver it automatically sets it up as if you are going to upload that page to your web server I am basically trying to create a template in dreamweaver then copy the html and paste it into the drescription portion on the ebay listing menu. However none of the pictures will link correctly if I do it this way.

Does anyone know how to set up the pictures so they link to an outside webserver but still shows up on your html without handcoding

I%26#039;m just trying to understand what constitutes or justifies the difference. -I have seen single domain registrations for as low as $4.95, to as high as $35 (actually, sometimes higher).

Also, please share with me what domain registration sites, hosting sites, and web design sies and/or services you have had good experiences with.

When you replace your files with the backup, (do it offline) go to windows explorer, since IE isn%26#039;t working, click View then click folder options then Show Hidden files and folders. Then overwrite the corrupted directory with the backup. Then go back to the same place on the toolbar and de-select that option.

Windows has a security feature of hiding system folders and system files, even from itself. If you install any software you should do that.

That%26#039;s the most common problem I have when fixing Windows. Or used to have, since I started doing it as a discipline every time.

If all of explorer isn%26#039;t functioning, Windows won%26#039;t load. You have to use the DOS command line function attrib -rash *.* from the c:\ prompt

That clears all the hidden, archive system and read-only attributes from all the files. Then do your repair. Then start Windows and before going online undo all that.

Those files are hidden or made non-executable for a very good reason. You wouldn%26#039;t want to delete Command.com or himem.sys or win.sys or anything like that.

Here is the scenario. A website developer has dumped a file with a (.filename) on into our host server. The site pages have a (.aspx) extension. I tried opening these pages using firefox and explorer - (using the following URL http//domain name/file name/document name.aspx) I get an error message. Any clue as to how I can get the pages to run? I have extremely limited knowledge of web development so please make it simple. Do I need to write a code somewhere to make it run? if so where?

An aspx page uses ASP.NET so you will need to install the .net framework on your server and register it with IIS. This is all of course assuming you are running a Windows server. If you are running Linux you are out of luck.

I am still fairly new at programming and learning. I have some VB.Net and ASP.Net under my belt but not enough to feel comfortable telling the bosses that what they want to do is good or bad.

Currently we have a website, works great, asp/html front and Access back end. The concerned part of the website is that it tracks our customers when they go to the product update pages. Stores this in a database table. We have an in house support log that we use to track customers calls and other info. This also uses an Access database. Once a week I import data from the web database to the in house support log database.

The bosses want to make an asp.net site that links to a SQL database (yeah). They want to redo the in house support app, vb6 to vb.net however they want it to remain in house and connect to a SQL database (yeah). They want the SQL server to remain in house and have the web app communicate with it. The web site will be hosted somewhere else.

Is this a good or bad idea?

I%26#039;m looking for a feed reader that will access the RSS feeds generated by the blog pages - these are also hosted at a similar address, say http://10.0.1.127/myblog/index.php?feed=...

So far I%26#039;ve tried Google Reader (a web-based service), rssfwd (an RSS to email service) and Illumio (a desktop-based reader). Obviously Google and rssfwd aren%26#039;t able to get to the feeds directly from their own servers, but I would have thought that the desktop-based reader ought to be able to do this, as my machine is logged onto the company network.

So, can anyone suggest either:

1) a desktop- or web-based feed reader that is likely to be able to reach these feeds, or

2) an elegant workaround (using an aggregator, having the blog publish feeds to a public server instead, etc.)

Look up at the address in the address field at the top of your browser (you know.. where you type them in). If it does not say MySpace.com or bulletin.myspace.com then DO NOT put in your email login and password.

What is happening is this... a hacker has mirrored the MySpace login page by duplicating it in every detail... which means he has Web design skills. Then he/she hosts it on a fake server somewhere... maybe at home... or stealing space from one somewhere else. When you enter in your login and password again.. it is being saved straight to the hacker%26#039;s database or server. All they have to do is get a few real users (your friends) info... and then it starts a chain reaction.

Many of you use your same email and password info on other sites.. maybe even for online banking.... if you think you have accidentally logged into one of the fake MySpace pages... go change your password everyhwere you use it... !

If you don%26#039;t believe me.. ask some of your friends that you thought were sending out stupid bulletins with links to porno sites or links to things that weren%26#039;t even there... and I%26#039;ll bet they will set you straight.

A client has sent me a link to an image he found on the web. It looks like an image taken from a shot of a computer screen, and is most likely not a copyright protected image. Still, it is hosted on someone else%26#039;s page and I%26#039;m reluctant to use it. Is there some way I can verify whether or not that this image is ok to use?

If the page it is posted on is the original creator of the image, you need to ask permission, however if the original creator cannot be found or you can find the image in many, many places, it is fine to use, just don%26#039;t credit the picture as yours.

I made this website for a company. It is my first site I have put on the web. they used godaddy for the hosting. They gave me the hosting acct and login password. I transfered the files over but I do not know how or where you can go set up the html pages so you can make it go online. Does anyone know the answer to my question? Help would be appreciated

I%26#039;d suggest using godaddy as ONLY a registrar, with actual hosting done some place else.

Godaddy has some strange things pertaining to their web server configuration and general setup.

If the company makes the switch now, it%26#039;ll be a lot easier than after they establish themselves.

You might explain to them that using a separate registrar will help prevent the hosting provider from holding their domain name %26quot;hostage%26quot; as using a separate registrar enables you to point the domain at a different host later on if you choose, without interference from the old host.

I say this as someone who has attempted to install web software and work with clients who have godaddy accounts. I can support them, but everything is weird, non-standard at godaddy.

They%26#039;re OK for static content and they%26#039;d probably make a fine registrar but their %26quot;mass hosting%26quot; approach just doesn%26#039;t work well for serious web sites.

The device is a tiny security cam which plugs into the LAN and has a mini webserver on it. I have dynamic dns from my ISP but can use a name from www.dyndns.com to get a free host name which directs to my device. However, every time I try to access that device externally from the web, I get my routers config page and not the device?? I have a D-Link DSL-302G router if that makes a difference? the router is at 10.1.1.1 and the device is 10.1.1.18....?

On your router, you need to forward port 80 to the device.

Locate the port forwarding menu option and forward external port TCP port 80 to port 80 on your device 10.1.1.18.

It may help to disable the option to edit your router config externally. As it stands now, anyone who goes to your address will be able to mess with your router config!

Well, I can help you get started with the unique domain name part. First go to a domain name registration site. Be careful though, many are shady and unstable. I developed a web site for the company I work for, and found out the hard way that domain name carriers can be crooks. How to i add my site to the dns host server?

There are several things required to host a site on your local machine besides DNS. DNS just does a lookup to send requests to the correct IP it is NOT A HOST!

Here is what you have to have in order to host a site.

1. Web Server on your local computer.

You can use IIS (microsofts web server), PWS (microsofts personal web server - visit Microsoft for details on getting them setup, not too hard but not easy either) or Apache a free webserver for linux, windows, or any OS. Currently Apache is the number one choice for most internet web servers!

http://apache.org you can also find easy to install packages for your computer. Once the webserver is working the DNS will point to that server and it will respond. You do have to have Apache or IIS working for them to send back a page!

2. An established web site for that Web server! You can build one and put the pages in the correct directory depending on the web server you are using. IIS uses a different directory than does Apache so all depends on the web server where you need to load your website!

3. You need to forward port 80 for the web server to work. That also means you need to change your routers default management page from port 80 to something else or it will not forward! You can change your routers port to 8080 or 81 etc using the routers setup pages.

4. You need to be sure your ISP (who supplies your connection) allows you to run a server! This is important because if they don%26#039;t and you try you will find it simply won%26#039;t work or you will find you will get dropped and have NO INTERNET for violating the terms of service.

5. You need your DNS pointed to YOUR IP which is all you have setup at this point!

In other words there is more too it than simple DNS entry!

ALL DNS DOES is point a name (your domain name) to your IP! It does nothing else nor can it.

GO to the Apache site, read and re-read it.

Once you understand what is involved you will see why paying a couple of dollars per month is well worth the expense for website hosting! Don%26#039;t forget if your computer turns off, so does your website, if you cable or DSL goes down, so does your website. AND the outbound speed of your connection will limit the amount of users that can see your website at one time. Generally this is low on most home connections!

Dyndns.com only handles the name resolution for you. You need to tell them the public IP address of your connection, either manually or by installing one of the many dynamic dns monitoring clients on one of your systems. Once that%26#039;s done, ping your dyndns url and make sure that name resolution is working properly, i.e. that it responds with the IP address of your external interface.

I can%26#039;t tell you how to edit your content as I don%26#039;t even know what web server you%26#039;re running. Read the docs.

And as to configuring dyndns, it%26#039;s all on their website. Again, read and you will be enlightened.

You also need to open these ports in the exception list on your firewall. You then place your pages in the document root of the server. Just having the dynamic dns should mean external machines will reach your public IP address, but you can not use it from your own network, as it will be looking at your router from the wrong side. I find dynamic dns very unreliable for this, better is a fixed public IP address, but you need to pay more to your ISP for this. Also many ISPs will not allow you to run a web server, they block port 80 incoming unless you subscribe to a business dsl account.

I have a website template which I have loaded into photoshop. The template has four buttons along the top that are supposed to link to the four different pages. Photoshop is not an HTML editor. It%26#039;s an image editor. You can design images for the site but you%26#039;ll have to find yourself an HTML editor like Dreamweaver / MS-Frontpage or learn HTML (it%26#039;s not so difficult) yourself.

The simplest format for the web will look like that:

I have to build a website. I%26#039;ve already gotten the pages done using adobe photoshop. This means that I know exactly what I want on each page and I%26#039;ve done the whole page by adobe photoshop. However, most website host needs the file to be in html in order for it to appear on the web. Is there any way to change an adobe photoshop image into a html file without changing the layout or anything? Not really. You can save the image as a jpeg and slice it up using Imageready...and then code html that uses those slices as buttons and whatnot. But there is no way to simply transform a graphic file into html.

Other Replys:There a couple of things here you should know. First, you%26#039;re going to have to open the file in ImageReady (which already comes with Photoshop). Then you will have to cut your layout into slices or you can just leave it as one big slice. However, by doing this, your text is also converted into an image (individual gifs) which would not let it be indexed (searched) by search engine robots.

Anyway, open the file in ImageReady and do %26quot;Save Optimized As%26quot; then select html only or html with images. Remember so save it as index.html. This is the first file the server looks for when your address is typed in. Hope it helps.

1. I dont seem to be able to load any of my own buttons etc to use for hyperlinks. The host only provides taps at the top.

2. I want to set up a membership/login system but have no idea where to start. Any help would be really appreciated.

3. The webpages seem to start quite far across the page, for example there is a colum on the left of the page that does not let you type or put anything into it.. i cant work out why...

1,3. Website builders are only good for really basic sites. I wouldn%26#039;t recommend using it. You can use graphical html editors such as dreamweaver or frontpage.

2. This can be done using a combination of PHP/HTML. Go to www.w3schools.com for good tutorials.

4. Your host most probably has FTP upload capabilities. Ask them if they do, and download FileZilla (an FTP client).

A server side language (ASP, .NET, PHP) and a database (MS Access, MSSQL, or mysql) usually is the easiest. PHP is usually better on *NIX and ASP / .NET on Windows servers - what are you on?

Probably the WYSIWYG editor. Source code / URL would really help. You need to layout your site using divides or tables. Most use divides now but some people find using tables easier

Most provide an FTP account to upload information. This would be better off if you asked them this question. #3 This is an HTML issue, the firs thing to do is work out the file names to their associated pages. For example, page.html.

Then edit page.html in a text editor or HTML editor, you should learn a little about HTML before doing this. (but see #4)

Actually, when you discover the hows and wheres of this, it%26#039;s really easy to do, but you have to take a few minutes and learn about ftp and such first, you%26#039;ll have understood why your own graphics aren%26#039;t being used for hyperlinks.

#4 - Check into your ISP%26#039;s ftp configuration, (or much *much* better, use sftp for security)

First step, get an (S)FTP program

Second step, ftp into your host. Often, this is the same as your domain name. (I realize this answer probably sounds like gibberish if you haven%26#039;t used ftp before.)

I recommend you get and explore ftp, the rest will make a LOT more sense after you%26#039;ve done that.

There could be a lot of reasons, since you didn%26#039;t post the web link, it%26#039;s hard to tell, a few wild guess

1. you develop the code in IE but after posting, use other browser like firefox which might not compatible

2. you%26#039;re using aminated gif, which is definitely not working in firefox, IE only

3. you tripod account might have added some code in while you upload it, causing it to malfunction e.g. some host will add a javascript section for internal use, and detect the ending body tag. If you happen to have javascript within head tags that generate a popup with body tags, it will mess up your code there.
